LVI. Żuk enclosed-spaces anti-corrosion treatment: Owatrol Oil, Fluid Film AR, Restom 4010

According to Żuk Budowa eksploatacja naprawa, enclosed-spaces anti-corrosion treatment should be as such:

surfaces to be treated not requiring preparation

the existing technological openings should be closed after use with a rubber seal

existing technological openings are not sealed after use

drillholes with a diameter of 14 mm, after use must be sealed with a rubber stopper

So, 12 month of protection? Not that much, in theory. But when I prepared the vehicle for it to be painted, the product (whatever it was) was still around in many places.

In any case, I wont touch red areas: these are properly sealed areas, it would require to drill holes to inject product there. Since there was absolutely not hint of rust developing there, I’ll keep them sealed.

Anyway, I used the following products with an air gun (same used before in article: LI. Anti-gravel/soundproofing Żuk’s lower body with Restom®Insonor 6030/Dinitrol 447) and Ø 8 mm multidirectional flexible nozzle.

step 1, (Rustol) Owatrol Oil

In my case, I won’t directly apply products similar to the ones listed supra, I’ll first submit enclosed spaces that have been exposed by my previous work on the vehicle to Rustol Owatrol, sold as Owatroil Oil in Poland. The idea is to avoid having rust untreated under the coating. Rustol Owatrol is applied directly on rust, it cannot be covered by automotive usual paints but is compatible with greasy coating, work for outside as well as inside,

For the record, (french) technical data states:

  • Liant : Résines de type alkydes
  • Solvant : White-Spirit
  • Densité (à + 18°C) : 0,89 ± 0,01
  • Extrait sec : 49 % ± 2
  • Viscosité (à + 20°C) : 100’’ ± 5 (Coupe ISO 3)
  • Épaisseur du film sec : 12-15 microns sur support non absorbant.
  • Résistance à la température : Maxi 175°C.
  • Tension superficielle : 29 dynes/cm à 18°C.
  • pH : Non concerné – Ne contient ni acide, ni base.
  • Point d’éclair : > 62°C.
  • Dilution : Ne pas diluer.
  • Température d’application : Ne pas appliquer par une température ambiante inférieure à + 5°C ou supérieure à + 35°C.
  • Séchage à 20°C : 
    • Hors poussière : Environ 4 à 6 heures.
    • Sec au toucher : Environ 12 heures.
    • Recouvrable : Environ 24 heures.

What matters is that it requires 24 hours to be fully dry and that white-spirit is to be used as solvant.

I got two cans of 0,5l for 111,98 zł:


I applied it, while it was around 7°C, with the following spraying apparatus in almost all mint-color areas – the original diameter was slightly to big and had to be reduced for the nozzle to get inside the dedicated holes:

Nothing complicated about it, you just need to pay attention to where the product leaks, since its fluidity will make it go through any tiny passage.

It is visible how it also mixed a bit with the previous coating, which was out of reach to be fully removed.

step 2, Fluid Film Liquid AR

Fluid Film provides different coatings:

  • Fluid Film Liquid A – has the consistency of oil and is used on heavily corroded surfaces or as a primer before painting PERMA FILM. As a stand-alone coating, it provides protection for closed spaces for a period of 2 years. It also has excellent lubricating properties.
  • Fluid Film NAS – has the consistency of thick oil with good thixotropic properties. It can be used as a stand-alone coating to protect closed spaces for a period of 5-8 years.
  • Fluid Film Liquid AR is a soft butter product with very thick coatings (up to 800 µm) and therefore allows for an extended protection of preserved surfaces (about 15 years). Like the above mentioned products FLUID FILM has very good penetration and moisturizing properties, also at low temperatures.
  • Fluid Film Gel BN – is in the form of gel (very thick coatings up to 1500 µm) and is used outside the shipbuilding industry interchangeably with PERMA FILM, among others, for the maintenance of closed spaces of cars and agricultural machinery. It provides a very long protection of the preserved surfaces (about 20 years).
  • Fluid Film AS-R (spray) – an all-purpose aerosol cleaner that provides protection for maintained surfaces for approximately 4 years.

I’ve read an article (that I cannot find anymore) about a guy making test on similar products and gave Fluid Film AR very decent ratings, I’m willing to try it.

I got two cans of 1l:

Fluid Film – zabezpieczenia antykorozyjne – 1 litr x2 = 139,80 zł = 32,60 €

It is advised to heat to 45°C the product. Actually, with the current outside temperature it would be solid, so unusable

Still, I was not able to use a long flexible tube with the nozzle, the product just would not go out (but my setup does not match Fluid Film recommends). So I had to use a short one, reducing ability easily to disperse the product.

I actually dispersed it mostly on areas that got a first layer of Owatrol. It goes very fast and if I wanted to use only Fluid Film, 5l would have been a minimum.

I decided to also treat the inside of rear doors, despite future work for heat insulation. Not being fully sure of how I’ll do that (depends on how what I have in mind go), I thought sensible to keep things how the were done in factory.

step 3, Restom® Cire Corps Creux 4010

Finally, here comes the Restom®Cire Corps Creux 4010. Purpose is similar than Fluid Film, (french) instructions are:


What matters is that it requires 3 weeks to be fully dry, injection holes not closed, and that white-spirit or acetone is to be used as solvant.

And these 3 weeks of wait time are the reason why I am going last with this product.

I got one 5l can:

Restom®CCC 4010-5L = 69,50 €

The texture is completely different from Fluid Flim, totally liquid. So it is obviously very easy to apply but unlikely to have the same durability. If I had to choose now between the two products, I would tend to focus on Fluid Film alone.

Technical openings to spray the product within the chassis are sparse, so I wont expect the product to be dispersed in an optimal fashion.

So, total cost:

inhibitor rdzy = rust inhibitor (Owatrol Oil)

zabezpieczenia antykorozyjne = anti corrosion protection (Fluid Film AR, 2l, 139,80 zł + Restom®CCC 4010-5L, 5l, 69,50 €)

+ kosztuje = 26,11 + 32,60 + 69,50  = 128 € ; Żukventure cost so far = 2900 + 128 = 3028 €
